A 31-year-old Saint Lucian mechanic and biker has been charged with assault and other charges following an incident involving a police officer in Arnos Vale, St Vincent last Friday, October 23.
Niguel Felix was arrested and charged the following day.
A release from the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force stated that Felix allegedly assaulted the officer by pulling at his regulation shirt while the policeman was carrying out his lawful duties.
Felix was charged with assault, obstruction of duty in connection with the incident, and damage to government property. The damaged property was the officer’s shirt, which was ripped during the incident and valued at EC$175.
The police statement did not specify what led to the encounter or give a date for Felix’s court appearance, though it did state that he is expected to answer the charges before the Kingstown Magistrate Court.
Bikers from Saint Lucia travelled to St Vincent over the weekend for the country’s Independence celebrations. A video showing a confrontation between police and one of the bikers over a helmet has since circulated on social media.
