Saint Lucia’s Ministry of Education has advised principals and early childhood development centre administrators that schools will remain open today, Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
“We remain guided by the Saint Lucia Meteorological Office and will continue to monitor the weather bulletins and forecasts. Please advise parents accordingly,” a notice from the Chief Education Officer said.
The Education Ministry’s notice to principals and early childhood development centre administrators had an October 3, 2023 date.
The advisory appeared as some individuals took to social media to criticise the Ministry for not suspending classes amid a Saint Lucia Met Office forecast of mostly cloudy skies, with some scattered light to moderate showers and isolated thunderstorms.
According to the 6:00 a.m. forecast, Tropical Storm Philippe continues to impact the Leeward Islands.
It said moisture and instability associated with the system would cause scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the Lesser Antilles during the forecast period.

You can open it all you want but you can’t make any parent send their child out in this weather.
The parents and teachers are the ones keeping the schools running anyways. Besides teacher salaries all the tax monies end up in the pockets of politicians.
Wait we see overcast skies and we shut down schools? What madness is this? No wonder students grades are rubbish and we have secondary school students who can’t read or write.

Most secondary school students should KNOW meteorology from their geography classes – also the very cell phone in their hand should tell them what the current weather system is like, so they can KNOW what is happening. Education is key.

Guess it depends on what part of St. Lucia you are in ; Babonneau had lots of rain would not be surprised that rivers overflowed their banks.

@asking for a friend point of correction students are not doing well and can’t read and write because of parents like you who leave all for the school to do. Reading begins as early as time in the womb; students who are good readers and those who excel in school are usually those whose parents read to them and engage them in reading especially at a young age most times even before they are of school age.
Parents do your part , don’t leave it all to the teachers and be assured students will do better.
Citizen must be one of those lazy ass teachers failing the kids. Find all kinds of excuses. Parents aren’t equipped to teach. There is a reason why teachers go to Teachers’ College. To attain the necessary skills to be able to impart knowledge. All my classmates went on to university. Know why? Because we were in the classroom learning all the time. Rain or shine we were there. And no we did not have internet or google or any of those fancy learning aids. Good old fashion teaching. Yet we graduated with good grades with none of what you suggested. You people keep lowering standards and expect to excel. Embarrassing.
