A man sustained a single gunshot wound to the upper body outside Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) on New Year’s Eve.
According to reports, the Dennery resident in his twenties had approached the BCF perimeter fence with a bag and was attempting to throw it into the prisoner recreation yard at about 2:00 pm.
However, officers from the prison’s Special Operations Response Team (SORT) intercepted him.
However, in the process of apprehending the man, he sustained a gunshot injury and was transported to the Dennery Hospital and later to the OKEU Hospital for treatment.
The Hospital has since released him.
The young man is in police custody pending charges.
A search of the bag he was attempting to throw over the perimeter fence found contraband, including cannabis, mobile telephones, and alcohol.
Later the same day, at about 9:30 pm, there was a second attempt to throw contraband over the BCF fence.
But the suspect evaded arrest, leaving a haversack containing mobile telephones, cannabis, and alcohol behind.
In late November last year, the BCF conducted a significant exercise dubbed ‘Operation Clean Sweep’ to locate and seize contraband from inmates.
Involving Correctional Officers, the police, and members of the Saint Lucia Fire Service, the operation seized over 1,500 contraband items.

What a beautiful way to start the year. That’s what I am talking about, guards. Coming all the way to the prison to dump contraband is a serious disrespect. It’s like in your face. Next time, a cold body or two would be great.
The 1st one survived so another came to finish the job. SHOT THEM IN THEIR HEADS
Better secure the border with an additional fense to make the inner border impenetrable with additional cameras monitored 24 x 7. It wouldn’t surprise me if the inmates had a Christmas party with alcohol and all. We must invest in the security of the country, and the people living in it. I wonder what rights the intruders thought they had. It can’t be human rights when they don’t behave as humans.
