Saint Lucia placed sixth at the 2026 Goodwill Swimming Championships, held from August 14 to 16 at the National Aquatic Centre in Couva, Trinidad & Tobago. The national team of 33 swimmers secured seven medals: four gold, two silver and one bronze.
The Bahamas won their fourth straight team title, winning 122 medals and breaking seven records. Host team Trinidad & Tobago copped 94 medals and set six new records, whilst Jamaica (63) and Barbados (58) were third and fourth. Antigua & Barbuda had eight medals in fifth.
Miles Andrew stood out for Saint Lucia, winning three events and leading the 9-19 boys age group with 60.5 points. He set a meet record in the 50m freestyle with a time of 27.40 seconds, took gold in the 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke, and earned silver in the 100m breaststroke and 50m backstroke.
Jaimie Devaux was Saint Lucia’s top female swimmer. The St Joseph’s Convent student finished seventh in the 13-14 girls category with 29 points, winning gold in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m breaststroke.
Other Saint Lucian swimmers who scored points were Khiara Hippolyte (11-12 girls), Nathan Lewis (13-14 boys), Emma Fortune (9-10 girls), Khalil Maraj and James Sylvester (13-14 boys), and Liam Charlemagne (under-9 boys).
This year marked the 30th edition of the Goodwill Swimming Championships, which brought together 250 junior swimmers from 14 Caribbean territories. The event aims to bridge the gap between local and international competition. Swimmers up to age 18 can take part as long as they have not represented their territories in events like the CARIFTA Aquatics Championships, CCCAN, CISC, or World Aquatics competitions.
