The government of Saint Lucia invites all Saint Lucians at home and in the diaspora to come together for the observance of the forty-fourth (44) anniversary of attaining Independence.

The calendar of events for the 2023 Independence celebrations was announced during the official Independence launch on January 30.

The Independence Standing Committee in collaboration with partner agencies and stakeholders have produced a total of fifteen [15] activities to commemorate our 44th Independence.

Under the theme Douvan Ansanm; One People. Shaping Our Destiny, these activities were designed to accentuate our national pride, engender community spirit, and build comradery amongst Saint Lucian nationals.

The Independence Baton Relay will touch each of the island’s seventeen (17) constituencies. Saint Lucian businesses were spotlighted during the Business Expo in the new Independence Village. Praise and worship services fortified our faith in Saint Lucia and its promising future. And, the island’s standout sportsmen and women were celebrated and recognized during the 41st National Sports Awards.

Following the official Raising of the Flag on the night of February 21 and at the stroke of midnight on February 22, a spectacular fireworks display will illuminate the skies over Pointe Seraphine Castries, the Soufriere Waterfront, and the Vieux-Fort Townhall.

All and sundry are invited to attend and view the ensuing Military Parade which takes place at the Saab playing field in the capital and is scheduled to commence at 9 am.

The National Independence Rally is carded for 11:30 am and will take place at the Castries Waterfront. Official Independence Day activities climax with Carenage Craze which begins at  3 pm and also takes place at the Castries Waterfront.

Carenage Craze is a platform for Saint Lucia’s emerging and established designers and musical artistes to showcase their creations before a national audience.

The Government of Saint Lucia also takes this opportunity to applaud Saint Lucia’s foreign consulates and the Diaspora community for hosting their own Independence activities and wishes all Saint Lucians at home and abroad a happy, peaceful, and safe observance of Independence 44.
