Police Welfare Association Responds To Claim That Cop Stole Cash During Traffic Check

spot_img

The Police Welfare Association has been made aware of a statement posted to the Facebook social media platform, by a profile alleging to be the sister of an aggrieved male residing abroad.

The statement details an encounter where she alleges a police officer searched the motor vehicle of the male and proceeded to steal from the motor vehicle a quantity of cash.

The allegations hurled against the officer were of grave concern and immediate enquiries were launched. Based on our findings we wish to update the general public on this matter.

On Monday, April 10, 2023, about 8:00 a.m. two teams of officers were dispatched to conduct traffic checks along the Beanfield Highway. These checks were in full view of businesses equipped with recording devices.

During the conduct of the checks, a silver toned Subaru SUV, which had not been stopped by officers proceeded to come to a halt and the male driver proceeded to question the purpose of the traffic check.

He was advised to proceed as to not cause an obstruction to the lawful conduct of the officers’ duties. The driver proceeded to park his vehicle and at this point was approached and spoken to by a female officer.

During that time, the relevant documents were examined by that officer. The driver got out of the motor vehicle and commenced arguing in raised tones and gesturing towards the officer.

The male supervisor, a Corporal of Police, approached the driver and the officer. He examined the documents to ascertain that all was in good order. The driver continued to use profane language and stated that the officers knew who the criminals were and had failed to go after them.

He was informed of the responsibilities of Traffic Police Officers and cautioned against his conduct. He went on to berate Saint Lucians, alleging persons were not supposed to be able to afford expensive vehicles.

He then insisted that he be searched. A search of his vehicle was conducted by another police officer in full view of not only him, but other officers and the public.

At this time, the Corporal had left to attend to other individuals.

He eventually left the area and returned shortly after alleging that monies had been withdrawn from his account using a card which was in his wallet. He alleged that he found the wallet some distance away from the traffic check and the card was still therein.

He was advised that footage could be reviewed to determine whether anyone unlawfully accessed his account. He proceeded to accuse the Corporal of theft. No officer had left the scene of the traffic check and upon his return it was still ongoing.

He was advised of the same but insisted that monies had been withdrawn from his account. He stated no cash had been taken from the wallet, but a deduction had been made by way of a card.

At no point in time did any officer handle the wallet of the gentleman. He was in possession of his wallet and provided his identification card to officers from it. The officer volunteered to write down his identification information for the driver for the purpose of further investigations and repeatedly identified himself.

The Police Welfare Association has reviewed recordings of the incident and the evidence directly contradicts the information provided in the social media post.

We therefore demand that the owner of the Facebook account in the name of “Angel Isaac” immediately issue a retraction and apology to the officer.

We also call on the host of the talk show, Champagne in the Morning, which repeated this post and named the officer without making any attempt to validate the claims to issue an immediate apology and retractions or face the same consequences.

To cast such aspersions is defamatory and will not be tolerated. We do not stand for ill discipline, however, in instances where officers are clearly being tarnished for personal fame, the association will take every necessary action to defend the integrity of officers and the organization we serve.

At no point in time did the corporal search this motor vehicle, nor did any officer leave the scene to facilitate a withdrawal of any monies from his accounts.

This can be verified by reviewing bank footage as well as that of the businesses in the area and footage gathered by the devices of officers present.

The association has employed the services of legal counsel for the officer and proceedings against this individual are going to be pursued rigorously. The actions to malign this officer will not be allowed nor tolerated.

  1. If the police use this same energy to investigate, and report to the public promptly as they did in this instance St.Lucia would be a better place. If her report is false then she should be penalized. Case closed, however can we joe public see the camera footage that brought you to your findings. I’d like to trust but I still need to verify.

  2. People does still waste their time and listen to Champagne and crew spew nothing but codswallop.

  3. Why go after Champagne when Claudius, the speaker of the house was more brutal on the officer. He even requested a formal police report be made and advised the Facebook person to press charges. When will we stop being bias in this country.

  4. Some of us think we’re too bright just because we live abroad. Make Angel Isaac pay for the defamation of character (that is providing that the police’s version of the story is true). I don’t care to see the evidence that they have against her. Just make sure to have it for the court. We need to learn to respect people’s names …

  5. The guy should have been arrested like 100 years ago. The moment he disrupted the ongoing operation, he should have been scooped up. He was allowed to do too many disruptive things. What I gathered from the article-he had free rein. This is precisely what happens with weak enforcement. I can think of a bunch places that sh*te would never happen.

  6. @Time Will Tell. Did Claudius mention the officer’s name? If not, that is the difference.

  7. Aa, St.Lucians too bright, they are too much. Let’s focus on the high criminal activity in the South of our island. We will spend time on nonsense pretending we are like the US. We do not have the money to support being like the US. Guys, let’s get together on one thing, let’s all agree we have lost respect for one another, try focusing on being community people like we knew, that’s what brought us this far.

  8. Y’all think Lucians stupid? The copral took the cash out of the wallet which was in the car and tossed it near the road. When the guy realized his wallet was missing,he returned only to find it on the ground void of cash. Smh

  9. Re Article… This trouble maker should be arrested and charged for obstruction.
A Lark of respect for our Police and the laws of the island.. Folks, please let’s show respect to each other and stop the Hate! The trouble maker is full of HATES!

  10. police should make public the video showing what ever was recorded of the incident

  11. Why would someone ask to be searched…come on police do better. I have seen Police road blocks and these clueless fools confuse the hell out of you. One shouting stop the other shouting go and they have a dirty stinking attitude. The same way yall plant evidence is the same way yall collude to concoct this stupid story. I believe the guy. Show the footage…the man never say yall withdrew money from his account…even a 43% would know you need a pin to do that. These are the kinds of police officers who make the force corrupt…..weed them out.
Now that President of the Police Welfare Association self who has been there for over 20 years in the same position he entered clearly knows nothing about his job hence the reason he can’t advance…thugs in uniform.

  12. Why would an overseas idiot just accused the police because he wants attention. People just believe because they live overseas they have some sort of superior status. I would have arrested his backside for that false accusation.

  13. Based on the article – why do some St. Lucians feel they have the right to obstruct an investigation?????? I have seen several footage where citizens are calling police officers names – shouting leave the so and so person alone, using profanity etc. etc. – where in the world can you do this without getting arrested???.
In all honesty, he should have been arrested for obstruction of an investigation at the onset – how dare you stop and interfere in matters with the police which do not concern you. Most of you Lucians should remain in St. Lucia – you all will not survive in a civilized society governed by rules and this is a classic example.

Try that some place else and you will end up as a victim for sure……just saying.

  14. So many murders and not once I have heard that nearby cameras were able to capture footage. Wow. That’s progress

  15. Sounds like lies….the man asked to be searched???….I don’t know ow anyone who asks to be searched

  16. He stuck his nose where it didn’t belong so that served him right, providing he lost any money

  17. WELL MY PIECE. THE POLICE NEEDS TO HAVE THE SAME URGENCY WITH THE INVESTIGATIONS OF THE KILLINGS OF INNOCESNT WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN ST LUCIA. THIS WHOLE INVESTIGATION TO BRING TO LIGHT DEFENDING CURRUPT OFFICERS. (Yall stick together to defend yall office not the people} WHERE IS THE URGENCY IN CATCHING CRIMINALS? WHERE IS THE URGENCY IN SENTENCING? WHERE IS THE URGENCY IN CREATING SUSTAINABLE CRIME STOPPING PROGRAMS FOR THE YOUTHS. WE KEEP BLAMMING POLITICIANS THAT DONT EVEN GO INTO THESE TROUBLED CONSTITUENCES AS MUCH AS THESE COPS. MAYBE RAISE THEIR PAY SO THEY TOO CAN DO COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS TO COMBAT CRIME. LLIKE I CAN WRITE A WHOLE ARTICLE ABOUT WHY THE POLICE FORCE SHOULD BE MORE INVOLED WITHIN OUR COMMUNITIE POSITIVELY INSTEAD OF ONLY WHEN CRIME IS AMIST

  18. So in typical Lucian stupidity “Angel Isaac” is told of an incident and runs with her itchy thumbs to post it; on which platform? LOL!
But her story does not sync with that of her brother, who should have been arrested for getting in the way of lawful Police duties.
The other thing is the Police & the PWA should request that the financial institution provide law enforcement with a printout of transactions from that account for that day. It would be instructive to see at what time and from which ATM, cash was deducted.
Another thing, the gentleman does not say the deduction was achieved through the use of his card, but by “a card.” Is he suggesting that it was accomplished by another card, and if so how does he know it was by a police officer, since he found the card still in the wallet by the roadside-the wallet which was never handled by anyone but himself?
THE DEVICES WE CONCOT WHEN OUR HEARTS ARE SET UPON MISCHIEF.

  19. It’s high time ppl start paying for their mouth in St. LUCIA! and that woman needs to be made an example of. Take everything she has cuz from the looks of it, she has a brother who is willing to lie and try to be the superior in a “small” country like the one he was born in; even referring to the officer as a thug. The same crap the Americans use to refer to law enforcement. Man this guy really needs to be taught a lesson. I will believe our laws are too relaxed, this man should have been arrested and brought before the court. He should have been in a cell while the plane was leaving and only then he’d be made an example of but it’s too late. I saw that the post was taken down, I hope an apology is not accepted and this woman is sued, as well the brother. We need respectful brought upon our police officers at a time where Criminals think they ran this state.

  20. Play the footage for St Lucians to see, very simple to do right?? @Jay you sound like a hack with no moral intelligence.

  21. Ma Malay your time in the spotlight will come. A number of foreigners actually challenge the workings of the Police during traffic checks and especially some who think they are above the status quo

  22. @Ron this is a public forum and I have posted my opinion – not based on hearsay, but rather on situations which I have personally witnessed with blatant disrespect for authority in St. Lucia. I hereby respectfully, return your comment right back at you…how dare you???.

@Ron The problem with some of you Lucians is lack of respect for others as well as the ability to disagree. I would never name call or disrespect anyone for their personal OPINION in this forum or any other forum.

    Let me respectfully reiterate —
“Try obstructing police matters which do not involve you some place else and you will end up as a victim for sure……just saying.”

  23. Telling lies is characteristic of all UWPs. I am not surprised as to the lies which are been said. But telling lies need to be stopped
