Francis Renews Call For Justice In ‘Vieux Fort Five’ Deaths

Attorney at Law Mary Francis has renewed a call for justice in the ‘Vieux Fort Five’ killings on the 13th anniversary of the death of the five men.

Police fatally shot John Baptiste Mc Farlane, Mitchel Cadette, Myron Dupal, Kevin Ferdinand and Allan ‘Lenny’ Louisy, during an operation in May 2011 in Vieux Fort as officers allegedly intercepted a robbery.

Mary Francis, the National Centre for Legal Aid and Human Rights Executive Director, has been representing Allan Louisy’s mother.

Francis recalled that the killings occurred between May 5 and the early hours of May 6.

She also recalled nine jurors deemed the police action unlawful after a ‘properly constituted’ June 2016 inquest.

Francis, described the incident as a grave violation of human rights and the bloodiest period ever in the history of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).

However, she lamented that the case had not been resolved eight years after the inquest.

In this regard, the outspoken human rights advocate declared that there has been much scapegoating of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and his office for the delay.

“The information I have is otherwise,” Francis told St. Lucia Times.

She told St. Lucia Times she had reliable information that the DPP advised the police hierarchy that there is a case to answer in the death of the Vieux Fort Five and the matter should proceed to the court.

“They have been ignoring the advice of the DPP,” Francis stated, adding that the police force has a culture of impunity, with officers unwilling to go against each other.

But she emphasised that the police are not above the law, especially as officers prosecute others who violate it.

  1. Sorry Mary, your disgusting clients took it in the pants. Wish you had spent the same fervor, counseling them about the virtues of honest sweat. Those scuzzy characters deserved precisely what befell them. They had caused mayhem in route to taking their one-way trip to the south. Their demise is nothing different than what occurs in countries where your controllers live. This is what happens when an armed gang meets security forces. Everyone knows it except you. I’m truly thankful that no innocent person was killed except those bastards. You should have waited to tell your story in July. I tend to be a bit sympathetic during that month. Next time don’t jump ahead.

Someone once said you must obey the law. I can’t remember who it was, since it was a long time ago.

  2. @Poule Foo, its not her responsibility to counsel criminals away from crime. Also if the authorities do not follow the law do not expect the citizenry to do that as well.

  3. You want Justice for these Criminals .What about the Famalies who have lost their Loved ones by Criminals Killing them .There’s nothing for that .You will never Succeed in what you looking For F££££££ S@@@@@ Human Rights Lawyer

  4. Killing that armed gang is precisely what happens in the countries that preach “human rights.” Armed gangs get blown by SWAT etc. Examples are everywhere for the blind to see. I don’t think you understand how the system works. Those developed countries are doing WHATEVER it takes for their safety. In the same breath, they are telling undeveloped countries that you can’t do the same. You have a living example. Which developed country is going on a limb for Gazans? Aren’t they entitled to “human rights.” The people who manage Guantanamo and a hosts of black sites are talking about human rights. Isn’t it too ironical for you?

Snap out of it. We are the ones faced with safety issues. These five guys were terrorist by THEIR definition.
