PM Announces National Shutdown From 8:30 PM On Sunday

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has announced a national shutdown from 8:30 pm on Sunday, June 30th, on the advice of the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO).

The announcement came as Saint Lucia expects Hurricane Beryl to move across the island Sunday night and early Monday morning.

“The country will remain closed and please remain indoors until the all clear is given,” Pierre said regarding Sunday night’s shutdown.

He also said that businesses and schools will remain closed on Monday.

In addition, Pierre disclosed national preparedness efforts and told citizens that the preservation and protection of life are priorities.

The Prime Minister’s complete statement issued Saturday night appears below:

  1. Thank you Mr.PM. Better late than never . In your address you mention all the critical systems such as the police, hospitals, infrastructure, SLASPA etc. On a normal day, those systems just like anything else can get affected and cannot be reached with 24 hours. Do we have a backup system for each of the critical see mentioned in your speech? Will there be a central local that the citizens can reach with one call and access all the systems. Do you have an SLA to get these systems up on running ? Have you ever had a dry run practice with the systems down. How prepared are we I. This upcoming coming hurricane ? These are all the questions my friend Jack ask. – thank you

Berly might change course during the next 24 to 48 hours However This statement is contradicting the forecast from NOAA.

  3. Another great speech by the PM. Good thing there were no reporters to ask any questions. He may not have answered
