Korra Hops On The Soca Bandwagon With Ricky T, Bronxx & Mata

Not only did social media influencer Korra Obidi turn heads and become the talk of the town during her stay in Saint Lucia for Lucian Carnival, but it would also seem that she caught the Soca fever.

During several of her interviews and social media posts, Korra could be heard professing her love for the island’s beauty and charm and enjoying her first taste of Soca music.

Well,  it gets even better. The Nigerian model, dancer, singer, and songwriter has since teamed up with Saint Lucia’s Soca Monarch and Road March King Ricky T for a refix of the song “Better Than Them.

Korra has over 8 million Facebook followers, almost 2 million on Instagram, an equal number of subscribers on her YouTube channel, and almost 2.5 million followers on TikTok.

The “Better Than Dem” refix, released last Friday, has garnered considerable attention and comments on Social Media.

“Once I landed in Saint Lucia, I knew I just had to have been here before. Maybe in another life. I was drawn to everything,” Korra said.

“The people, the food, the atmosphere, everything was so beautiful. What captivated me the most was the energy the island vibrated on. It was a fast-paced energy and rhythm fueled by Soca! I had never experienced this before; I knew I had to vibe to it firsthand,” she added.

According to the Social Media sensation, through her manager “Aunty Pat,” she linked up with Ricky T’s team for her Soca “first.”

“We got in the studio and like a match made in heaven, “Better Than Them” the Refix was born,” Korra recalled.

“I know the value of collaboration and how it can impact and benefit all parties,” declared Courtney Louis, CEO of Stratosphere Muzic, Ricky T’s management and production company.

“I would have been crazy to pass this up! She was the easiest to work with in the studio and so the song came together quite quickly. It’s a win-win for everybody, Korra on a soca track is something new for her fans and it’s a good look for the Lucian artistes and the country and we are glad to be part of it,” Louis asserted.

Commenting on the collaboration, the head of Marketing at the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, Dexter Percil, said that the presence of influencers and celebrities at Saint Lucia Carnival has significantly elevated the carnival product, weaving a vibrant tapestry of global engagement and local culture.

“Their enthusiastic participation brought a fresh, dynamic energy to the festivities, showcasing the island’s rich cultural heritage to an international audience. Through their extensive social media reach and media coverage, these high-profile guests highlighted the unique aspects of Saint Lucia’s carnival—the organic Dennery Segment music, private parties, colorful costumes, and spirited celebrations—drawing attention to the island’s cultural depth and tourism potential,” Percil stated.

Several other influencers, including Chloe Bailey and Jessie Woo, were in Saint Lucia for the Lucian carnival.

Better Than Them (Korra Refix) is available for streaming and download on all platforms.

  1. It would have been better if Ricky T had sang this song with the Creole sister, Jesse Woo. She would have definitely put a Creole side to it.

  2. Did Jesse Woo tell you she could sing? You forgot part of Creole originated from West Africa? Also, Ricky T can’t afford Jessy Woo right now, she has active contracts.
