LUCELEC Recognizes Outstanding Employees

Several exemplary employees of the St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) were recognized at the Company’s recently held annual Staff Awards, under the theme “Illuminating Excellence”.

Of the major winners, the Finance & Accounts Department was awarded the Large Department of the Year for the second consecutive year and fifth time overall.

The first-time winners of three of the remaining four major awards were Employee of the Year Kimberly Alfred, Supervisor of the Year Grades 4-6 Kevin Charles and Supervisor of the Year Grades 7-9 Brent Octave. And, for the second time in its history – the Planning Department was named Small Department of the Year.

For Alfred, a LUCELEC Trouble Call Operator who is currently the acting Budgeting & Reporting Assistant in the Finance & Accounts Department – this win, which was met with resounding applause, was a full circle moment.

“Having worked with the company as an intern, a temporary staff and now in a permanent capacity, being awarded this title felt like the pinnacle of my journey as an employee with the company thus far. After attending the awards ceremony last year, I challenged myself to be amongst the awardees for the following year and so for that to come to fruition, especially as ‘Employee of the Year’, made all the sacrifices; working graveyard shifts and balancing work and school (sometimes unsuccessfully) worthwhile.”

“It is efforts like hers that the awards are designed to recognize,” says LUCELEC Chief Human Resources Officer Sharon Narcisse.

“Excellence is one of our Core Values and it means that we proactively and consistently achieve the highest standards of quality, productivity and service in accomplishing our performance goals. It also means that we approach every challenge with a determination to succeed and to overcome all our obstacles.”

Chairman of the LUCELEC Board of Directors, John Joseph commended all team members for growing and maintaining a culture where all – and by extension the company, succeed.

“When you can celebrate excellence, it says a lot about you, and I think we shouldn’t take it for granted. It’s something that took a long time to build, it’s something we will continue to work on and I’m very, very confident that the trajectory we have, with the excellence we’ve been working with, the sky’s the limit when it comes to LUCELEC staff.”

LUCELEC Managing Director Gilroy Pultie also spoke of the need to continually work to achieve excellence as the company adapts to remain viable in what is a rapidly changing electricity landscape.

“Excellence is not a one-time thing. It is not a destination; we are on a continuous journey of improving all the time.”

He also spoke to the importance of employee recognition activities like the Annual Staff Awards, “It is a time to reflect on the hard work and commitment that drive our company forward as well as to mingle and celebrate our collective efforts.”

In addition to the major awards, team members were recognized for length of service, special achievement, leadership and “Living the Core Values”. The LUCELEC Annual Staff Awards were held within its Cul de Sac facility.
