SLP Hails Success Of “Walk for Progress”

The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has hailed its “Walk for Progress,” which drew large crowds from all 17 constituencies, as a success.

In a sea of red, supporters took to the streets on Sunday to show their backing for the SLP government’s achievements since its election to government on July 26, 2021.

The walk began at the Vigie Playing Field and ended at the Castries Market.

Before the event, the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) had suggested that the walk was a strategy to gauge SLP support ahead of a possible early election.

However, Prime Minister and SLP leader Philip J. Pierre dismissed the notion.

Pierre also called for unity.

“There are certain things we have to work on together. We cannot continue to divide the country. We cannot continue these personal attacks. We cannot continue to spoil the name of the country abroad,” he asserted.

“This is a democracy and there is room for an opposition. There always will be an opposition. I was in opposition myself, I understand the opposition, but the idea of destroying the country, we must stop it. This country does not belong to me. It belongs to the people,” Pierre said.

Former UWP leader Stephenson King also addressed the opposition’s suggestion of early elections.

“If they believe this is an indication of an early election, then they should be prepared,” King remarked.

“This is an indication of where we are at the midpoint and what is likely to come in the remaining two years. This is just to get the Saint Lucian people to have that appreciation,” King stated regarding the SLP activity.

The former UWP leader had contested the 2021 election as an independent and, after retaining his Castries North seat, joined the Philip J. Pierre government as a Senior Minister.

Despite the opposition claims, the SLP has reiterated that its ‘Walk for Progress’, instead of being a precursor to an early election, celebrated the government’s accomplishments  in office thus far.

  1. Now it seems finally politicians in St. Lucia are getting honest. Due to the lack of progress in the country, the Government has mobilized its own supporters to march for progress. Let’s hope we will now begin to see real progress.
Since Mr. King spoke, he probably should tell us when there will be progress in eliminating these huge potholes along the Vieux Fort to Castries highway. I mean we are 8 months into the “year of infrastructure”.
Now that we have marched for progress, let us begin to see the progress.

  2. It is clear again and again that in order for the opposition to make any meaning strives and convince the electorales they are prepared to contest next elections the answer is::::
Change the leader and deputy. Both must step down. They are the impediments of the party.
I urge party members to act.

Chas and Guy . Please get off the flambeau train. Out please so the party can move on .

    Please. Am a UWP supporter
    and its clear to me.

  3. @Carbay. I am in support of your position 100%. Until they are gone, Flambeau will continue to be in the doledrums.

  4. So, you’re the incumbent but will waste valuable state resources (financial and time) to campaign! And you see nothing wrong with that?

If this government spent half of it’s energy on actual governance we would be in a far better place.

  5. I have said it several times, not only Guy and Chastanet, but all the rejected parliamentarians, Dominic Fedee, Herod Stanislaus, SPIDER these people should not be there in the next election. I rather Minavar ward to try her luck. These politicians’ reputation is tarnished, St. Lucians don’t want them anymore. Flambo should check the massive crowed Laba had yesterday, they ought to change the strategy completely. I will want FRANK MYERS to be the leader of the party.

  6. Antonie, Crow and Cabay…. You’ll will definitely be the downfall of the RATS (STAR) SLP!!!! i URGE YOU TO CONTINUE TO DO AND SAY WHAT YOU DO AND SAY….
Silence is golden”. PIP IS THE WORST PM AFTER VAUGHN LEWIS

  7. @Josephine you are correct!!! Our party is now handing over to SLP a victory ticket. Flambeau wake up or else you will drink the coffee WITHOUT SUGAR.
Remember the populas rejected Kenny Anthony. Now Chas falls under the same umbrella. Do not let the party fall to a second defeat.
UWP team balls up and do what is right in your next convention.
Otherwise as said in their weekend walk for progress slogan.
    “We coming”…. and they will.

What are we doing…lets get out all the team members with the stained reputation….lets vote them out.
Am warning you all. Let us do the right thing. For now there is no light down the dark tunnel UWP.

The USA democrats noticed that BIDEN would not take them to victory . And what they did???

I will come back with more.
