Saint Lucia’s Victor and Emmanuel In China For FIVB Worlds

The Saint Lucian duo of Rio Victor and Peter Emmanuel is set to represent the island at the 2024 FIVB Beach Volleyball Under-19 World Championships in Shangluo this week.

Victor and Emmanuel competed in the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, and then the 2023 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Under-19 Championships in St Kitts & Nevis.

They won the ECVA title, and followed that up with victory in the World Championships qualifiers earlier this year in Trinidad & Tobago.

The World Championships are running until September 1 in Shangluo, a city in the central Chinese province of Shaanxi. The competition venue is situated on Qinling Museum Square in the Shangzhou District of the city.

Teams travel for ECVA U21

Meanwhile, the Saint Lucia Volleyball Federation (SLVF) has named its teams for the 2024 ECVA Under-21 championships, which will be back in St Kitts & Nevis from August 30 to September 1.

This high-profile event brings together 13 teams from 11 countries, all vying for a coveted spot in the FIVB Beach Volleyball Under-21 World Championship in Georgia in July 2025.

The men’s team comprises Daniel Joseph and Rayquan Francis, both from the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School. The women’s team features Ketrice Jules (Sir Arthur Lewis Community College) and Marie Therese St Claire (St Joseph’s Convent).

Terry Verdant will travel with the team as Head Coach. The quintet is also expected to take advantage of an ECVA Beach Volleyball Training Camp and Coaches Course, sponsored by Olympic Solidarity and conducted by FIVB Instructor Rick Bevis.
