Saint Lucians have been given a glimpse of the grand celebration planned for Julien Alfred’s return to the island.

Alfred will return to Saint Lucia on September 24, marking her first visit since her remarkable achievement of winning gold in the 100 meters and silver in the 200 meters at the Olympics.

Given her historic performance, she is set to receive an enthusiastic welcome from the public.

During a pre-cabinet press briefing on Monday, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre announced that Sept. 27 will be declared “Julien Alfred Day,” a national holiday in her honor.

Additionally, the following activities were revealed:

Sept. 24 – Julien Alfred Arrives in Saint Lucia, Followed by a Motorcade on the East Coast

Sept. 26 – Alfred Visits The Ciceron Primary School with a Mural Unveiling and Massive Announcements
Sept. 27 – National Holiday and Free Concert at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground at 4 PM

Officials have indicated that public suggestions and examples from other countries influenced the planning of these celebrations.

Saint Lucians are encouraged to come out in large numbers to join in what is expected to be a momentous occasion of national unity and pride.

  1. Is that all?

    – What about a Diplomatic passport
    – Keys to the City
    – A Julien Alfred Sports Fund for elite athletes.
    – A legacy project to develop Sports to an elite level.
    – A commitment to have top sporting facilities for events/training
    – A scouting Department to sort seek potential athletes in schools…

  2. That celebration is one for the ministers and not for those who have dedicated their time to become athletes in various sports.

  3. She did well , but as a small third world country , we can’t spend to much on her. As she can earn millions in endorsement , interviews , commercials . We can just wish her well but the country do not really have to give the sprint queen anything …

  4. What about land and a half million dollar cheque. Top it with free Bounty Rum and free mineral baths at the Sulphur Springs for life.

  5. Way, way, way! Nothing to please some people. They have all the bright ideas. Mr. P M, y’all have done well with the little that you have.

  6. Thats all for Julien, where the billboards of Julien all over St. lucia ..Did youll see what Dominica do for their athlete Thea Lafond.. Nonsense total Nonsense Julien should stay In the US and run for the usa You’ll give all CIP money away, and that’s what you’ll going to do for Julien

  7. Bipolar stay that way don’t try to stop our celebrations you too bad minded her millions is hers what she work hard for smhhh!!!

  8. Boy I don’t know……girl don’t come home stay where you are and earn your money and notoriety…. Pure BAD MIND; you have done more for St Lucia than the two Nobel Lecturers we produce nobody remember them fools. You are so deserving and then some for all you have done for the country. You got a holiday fools questioning it……how many Catholic Holidays we have (chooops) all kind of crap and they don’t question it, but our unsung hero get one and they bitch. A prime piece of land in Cape Estates is well earned , we got all kinds of Stiff Upper lipper foreigners up there that are so not deserving

  9. Which “public” did they seek suggestions from? I do hope that the anticipated major announcements include renaming the sports academy after her and that a group of students from the LHSS is included among those scheduled to welcome her at the airport. Looking forward to both her return and the related celebrations 🍾 🥂 💃 🕺… We love you Juju ❤️❤️❤️ wishing you travelling mercies 🙏

  10. Please, be happy for the young lady, who is coming to her home country to celebrate with her family, her country and her friends. Don’t be a HATER. Whatever she receives, it’s hers. She deserves every bit of it. Do you know the meaning of a glimpse?? I am sure she is not coming to St. Lucia for anything.
Moreover, she is coming to celebrate her GREATNESS with her people. I am PROUD of her for making me a proud St. Lucian.
Also, whatever the government can offer her, I know she will accept it with open heart because that is not what she is coming home for. Please don’t be so hypocritical that some of you! Be happy for your fellow St. Lucian. Alfred, I am super PROUD OF YOU , my dear GIRL, ❤️. Let the world look at your home coming with pride and dignity. May God bless you and keep you safe as long as you live please, enjoy your day. Love ❤️ always, RMF.

  11. SAINT LUCIANS HOW MUCH HOLIDAY DO WE AS A COUNTRY HAVE APPARENTLY WE HAVE COVERED ALL OUR,WORKING DAYS WITH ISSUEING HOLIDAYS THE AMT 365 DAYS IS EQUIVALWNT TO THAT,OF THE AMOUNT OF HOLIDAYS IN THIS SMALL ECONOMIC ISLAND CAN YOU IMAGINE , I AM OF THE OPINION THAT WE ARE TIRED OF WORKING NOW . HOW POOR WE HAVE BECOME ARE WE BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE OR A BITTER,AND OUTLANDISH FUTURE WITH ALL THIS .

  12. I was hoping they would have commissioned a Gold Bust of the girl to put at the start of the Millennium Highway, which borders Ciceron and rename the Highway Julien Alfred Highway.
We have two gold busts at Derek Walcott Square already.

  13. Olympic gold is seen as the pinnacle of individual sporting achievement. A stadium is the premiere sporting facility. We name a stadium after a guy who just happened to be part of a team that won where he contributed very little. Sammy’s appearance in these winning teams is nowhere in the ballpark as Alfred’s achievements. Now the officials are in a quandary. Accolades bestowed on Alfred has to surpass by miles anything done for Sammy. What can they do now?

  14. @Benignus Alfred: There are two BRONZE busts of the Nobel Laureates in Derek Walcott Square; your mistake is quite forgivable, given your elation at Alfred’s golden performance in Paris.

For all the comments so far in this thread, your suggestion for honoring Alfred, in my mind, makes the most sense! The GOLD bust of Ms. Alfred should be located at the round-about near the OKEU Hospital; and yes, the highway should be renamed, the Julien Alfred Highway!

Mind you, the snail’s pace by which the reconstruction is taking place, directly insults the hard work put in by Ms. Alfred to become the fastest woman on the planet. Although, renaming the highway should serve as inspiration for ending the rampant corruption which marks such capital projects in St. Lucia (the UWP & SLP being two cheeks of the same backside).

  15. September 27 should be named National Heroes Day. A day to celebrate all categories of heroes -sports, nobel prizes, etc. Lets make it a national holiday.

  16. I am extremely happy for Julien Alfred as she worked extremely hard to obtain these medals…and as a result she should be celebrated for her accomplishments.

However, I am not sure about the thought process or mental capacity of some St. Lucians —

[ you have done more for St Lucia than the two Nobel Lecturers we produce nobody remember them fools.]

My response: the Nobel Laureates put St. Lucia on the map with literature and economics and you have the audacity to refer to them as fools – REALLY?????????? THAT’S VERY DISRESPECTFUL AND INSULTING.. I left St. Lucia a long time ago and had never met them – however, I thank God that I remember them both as well as their contribution on behalf of St. Lucia and the Caribbean at large.
They must have been exceptionally brilliant black men to be awarded a Nobel Prize. Amen

  17. @Klaudya…..keep your Bad Mind poppy show to yourself….what heroes ?? Not even the great Usain Bolt got that just so St Lucia should bestow “national hero status “ on Julian Alfred you must be joking. No one ALIVE OR DEAD deserves this honor YET. For one to become a national hero they would or should have shed blood or death for the sovereign of this country in my opinion and I don’t know or known of anyone who has done so. She can be a sports ambassador for St Lucia and that’s it…. Upgrade her passport to diplomatic and call it a day. I wish she would not come here too many DuTTY BAD MIND trying their dam best to water down her worth SOME OF YOU PEOPLE BORN WICKED, JUST WICKED.
