Export Saint Lucia has revealed a significant step in enhancing the international appeal of local products with the launch of the new branding and packaging for breadfruit exports.
Breadfruit is now officially branded as ‘Lucian Breadfruit’.
It will make its mark on global markets with a distinctive new look designed to boost recognition and market presence.
The new tag for breadfruits features the Taste of Saint Lucia logo and the brand, ‘Lucian Breadfruit,’ in green and national colors.
The export will be in branded boxes labeled ‘Product of Saint Lucia’ – with an illustration of Saint Lucia’s world-famous Pitons, the Breadfruit and its leaf, avocados, and other products that Saint Lucia exports.
Sunita Daniel, CEO of Export Saint Lucia, emphasised the importance of the branding effort.
“Saint Lucia’s product usually went out into the market with no branding. That is something we are changing….when we did go out into the market, we realised everybody else had proper branding- except us, and so we’re trying to fix that so people can know exactly where the product is coming from,” Daniel told a news conference on Monday.
The new branded packaging will include “Product of Saint Lucia” labels, ensuring that consumers worldwide can immediately associate high-quality Breadfruit with its island of origin.
In addition, Export Saint Lucia disclosed that it is in the process of trademarking the new brand to ensure legal protection and safeguard the integrity of the “Lucian Breadfruit” label.
Though Breadfruit farmers have already begun purchasing the boxes, the ‘Lucian Breadfruit’ tag will be provided to the farmers by Export Saint Lucia, free of charge.
Save the money for the off seasons
Uncooked breadfruit has such a short shelf life, one delay and it’s a complete loss.
Great job! It’s not too late to place our distinct stamp in the marketplace. Pre-Covid, there was a vegetable store in the UK that was known for palwe mangoes from SLU. Customers travelled long distances to lay hands on those prized things. Even My Exotic Fruit website sells St. Lucian palwe mangoes. People don’t want any palwe, they want the St. Lucian one.
For too long Caribbean countries have sold their produce as natural and not developed amazing products from our raw materials. Breadfruit is wonderful and great to export. But what if we can create amazing product that create amazing wealth. We treat our people as poor stupid people that all they can do is pick bread fruit. It is time to innovate and try new thing Export St Lucia. That’s how the sea moss industry got hammered by the same senseless actions of not innovating the industry. We are really poor people led by an agricultural expert and not an innovative person. Repacking or branding breadfruit LMAO. Very innovative as if other countries will not do the same. We have to be innovation and creative and not just sell our raw materials in the Caribbean as is. Added value is needed. Just like bananas we going down the same road. Breadfruit is big business to small people. What he we could create a billion dollar food company selling creative food across the world make from local ingredients that is healthy. Come on dream big and create.
Well done but let us not short live this opportunity!
Brand Manager, please come up with an innovative and creative label technique.
As we know branding is everything with a good fruit/ item.
Free advice, no plastic wrap is needed, neither a sticker think biodegradable!
Stickers are effective for smaller fruit not this size
Looking in from out, Export Saint Lucia needs to improves branding styles and technique.
Today Breadfruit tomorrow? Dashin; Yam has always been around & I like it.
I don’t know about the life span of Breadfruit if not sold in the shop for about ten days? go figure. I personally would like to have some ‘Bay leaves’ – Bay Rum Leaves, good for afternoon Tea. If you keep exporting for profit, then what’s left for the poor Peasants back home.
That is great . Will you be shipping to the US?
Very Happy for this activity
Sweet Potato is even better. Try dry Coco nuts.
This is Amazing news, however its truly something to behold. When I started my small business in 2021, Iyanola’s Bounty, (Iyanola is the name given to St Lucia by the Arawaks) I walked tirelessly trying to get assistance from this establishment and more on how to get our food, herbs and spices across the world. No assistance given, so we had to do it on our own, paying exhorbitant prices to get our goods to the U.K same day shipping. Our bayleaf has reached as far as Dubai and Ethiopia.
All this to say, I am happy they are finally ready to showcase the bounty of superfoods our sweet Iyanola has to offer!
Do you really mean our poor people afternoon Bay leaf Tea has reached Dubai and Ethiopia? its amazing how a little thought can put our little Rock on the Map; that and a little prayer to the LORD can work wonders – just in case some of you didn’t know His Name is – JESUS – ask.
