Defending champions Saint Lucia defeated Bermuda 3-0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-19) at the YMCA Sports Complex in St John’s, Antigua & Barbuda, winning the final of the 2024 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Women’s Championship.
Saint Lucia thoroughly avenged a narrow loss to the girls from the northern Atlantic, who defeated the champions 3-2 in pool play. Bermuda lost to Grenada, however, whilst Saint Lucia won all their remaining fixtures, and topped the table.
In five preliminary matches, Saint Lucia dropped only three sets, two to Bermuda, and one to Antigua & Barbuda.
There were five individual awards for the champions. Saint Lucia’s Kerin Neptune was adjudged one of the two best outside hitters, and added the title of Most Valuable Player. Neptune, 29, repeated as MVP, having won that title in 2022, along with best receiver and best server.
This time, those latter two awards went elsewhere. But Tyna William was named best middle blocker. Cindy Wilson picked up the award for best setter. And best digger was Tenayestlgni Joseph.
The six-team tournament also featured home team Antigua & Barbuda, along with Anguilla and Sint Maarten.
The ECVA Men’s Championship is expected to include 10 teams. Saint Lucia will seek to do the double from October 23-28
