Toronto’s Toxic Sounds Keeping Saint Lucian Culture Alive!

On Sunday October 20 Toxic Sounds Crew, SakPase Toronto, and Music DR Promo in Toronto, staged their annual Kwéyòl activity to coincide with activities for Kwéyòl Heritage Month Celebrations in Saint Lucia.

The event was held at De Runa Banquet Hall and featured live entertainment, food and a display of craft from Saint Lucia.

According to DJ Toxic, who was one of the promoters, this year was exceptional.

“It was a very special year for us as Saint Lucians living in Toronto and celebrating with our fellow Saint Lucians back home all of the successes we have seen this year,” he said.

“At the event on Sunday, we had Meshach from Saint Lucia performing in Toronto for the first time and we were incredibly happy to be a part of that. We also had one of the best Calypsonians from Saint Lucia, De Ashanti and Umpa who is a Dennery Segment master, and they all put on a really good show,” DJ Toxic told St. Lucia Times.

The response from patrons was also particularly good we were told.

“People came out in large numbers and really enjoyed the event including the food. We had various food vendors who worked hard to really bring out the creole culinary experience and we also had craft vendors with lots of items made from Saint Lucia. So overall I am really appreciative of everyone coming out and really just celebrating Saint Lucian culture and for my part I am very happy to be keeping the Saint Lucian culture alive out here,” DJ Toxic said.

The organizers are also thankful for the endorsement from the Consul General of Saint Lucia to Canada, Henry Mangal.
