No Elections ‘Anytime Soon’ – Pierre Criticises ‘Power Hungry’ Politicians

Amid opposition urgings for a return to the polls, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has responded that it won’t happen soon.

Pierre preceded his comments by warning Saint Lucians not to be carried away by power-hungry politicians who refuse to understand the right of the people to elect the government or remove it when the time comes.

“I can assure you there are going to be no elections in Saint Lucia anytime soon. Elections are called by the Prime Minister,” he told reporters at Monday’s pre-cabinet press briefing.

Pierre declared that the trend would continue.

“No one will ever be able to say to the Prime Minister, it has not happened before, it won’t happen now, when to call elections,” he declared.

“The Prime Minister will call elections and the Prime Minister will ensure that he follows constitutional requirements for elections. So all this disorder and this deliberate creation of trying to pretend there is a chaos and there is crisis in this country, that will not go anywhere. It will just keep the country back and I am calling on all Saint Lucians to disregard this power-hungry situation happening in this country,” the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) leader stated.

The SLP surged into office following a landslide election win in July 2021.

Pierre had earlier expressed concern  at Monday’s pre-cabinet briefing about the politically-influenced glorification of criminal activity.

“I am very concerned about the glorification of crime in certain sectors for political reasons,” Pierre, who is responsible for National Security, told reporters.

“The opposition always seems to be happy when things do not go right as far as crime is concerned,” he noted.

“There seems to be a joy, you know. Instead of condemning criminality and saying to criminals that they are on the wrong path,” Pierre stated.

He recalled that his administration worked with a non-government organisation, giving it $250,000 based on a budget to assist with crime suppression in depressed areas.

However, the Prime Minister lamented that the opposition criticised the initiative.

“The opposition in their desperation seemingly, and I make no bones about it, seemingly encouraged crime, encouraged criminality, encouraged disorder, for their own political motives,” Pierre asserted.

  1. That man PJP must be mad for true, you went to Dominica and said there will be election in St Lucia soon, now you’re blaming the opt. Mate mad or he thinks very little of St Lucians . Clown country

  2. Talk about pot calling kettle black. Dude you’re in bed with one of the most sketchy people in the country and you gave him a ministry to run. There should be a fixed date for elections. This game politicians play needs to end.

  3. Every night during the last administration Can I help me was on his show floating about murder statistics. Now crickets! This government did everything it could to DESTABILIZE the country during the last elections including have people match during COVID and also trying to derail the governments plans to open the country for tourism. Same government now accusing the opposition of exactly what they themselves were guilty of. Special place in hell for you politicians! All of Y’all!

  4. Everyone should know by now, that the opposition is thrilled by the occurrence of crime. UnitedPac is always excited to post gruesome crime information on “I Love St Lucia” Facebook grouping. That grouping is essentially meant for historical, cultural and things positive about the island. Tourist also seek information through that grouping. Those idiots will do anything to get an angle. Misfits.

Pierre should keep the opposition quiet by fixing the crime problem. Oops! I just remembered that he doesn’t have the skills, knowledge or ability to do so. I have not heard Pierre reassure the nation recently about increasing crime, he already knows what the public thinks of him. On that matter, they will only hear of him as he jets to the next “critical regional meeting.” How many meetings can one have in three years to address an issue? Answer: As many, until it hurts.
I personally gave up on Pierre when he said, “I am at my wits end” after a particularly violent weekend. This was extraordinary coming from a head of security. Generally, that’s unsaid. A bonafide security person would step it up a few notches when confronted with extreme resistance. They would immediately make it tougher. That’s how it’s done. Jokey Pierre- Minister of Insecurity.

  5. First nail in the coffin ………… the dunce pm before you did the same thing but the again both of you’ll are dumb a****. Take a page from the the old fox KDA..

  6. Election is only in the minds of the opposition. The current administration has been mandated to govern for five years and will.
There is no doubt life is better under this government.
I can understand the oppositions desperation, however I think it’s becareful what you wish for as at the next election it will be a total wipe out. Micoud Sth is going to be won by Labour

  7. I think that the PM is slightly star struck.
The PM and his party was elected because they promised to do what the electorate wanted.
So far none of this has happened despite the millions of dollars that have poured in from overseas.
Pull your finger out and do what you and your ministers promised!

  8. “Power Hungry ”politicians :
Eager for money have wandered from the truth…and pierce themselves with griefs want to get rich, temptation and a trap into foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into 😈 evil ruins and destruction…
Their deeds are obvious reaching the place of ⚖️judgment ahead of them, other trials behind them…

    PIERRE,
Guard the good deposit that is entrusted to you left in your care, and make restitution for what in regard which failed to and responsable of their wrong doings…

  9. The power hungry politicians in the opposition who got rejected by the people are calling for early elections thinking that the people will vote the government out but that will not happen elections is due in 26 and not one of them will win a seat not even the Micoud South that they will win all they want to do is come and milk the treasury and give land, money and contracts to family , friends and foreigners who gave the working poor a minimum wage there was over 20 thousand people who were earning wages as low as 3 EC dollars an hour. It was the current administration that had the balls to create history by enacting a 6:52 which in my opinion will increase in a year or 2 get the hell outta here as we the people will not vote for Flambeau 17 – 0 in 26 … Forward ever backward never….

  10. There’s nothing wrong being hungry for what you want. Now, Mr PM I want you to be hungry for good governance, because you have some hungry foxes in your cabinet, hungry to full their pockets. You can start with the CIP.

  11. The matter of facts and the end of conclusion :
It is all about Election Sure :
Workman Approuved then Honor, excellente standing and a model

  12. Come on mr pierre. What is all the fussing about. I can recall one particular instance when your party was in opposition and you all were demanding election before its time. You all were blaming the uwp for crime. Now the shoes is on the other foot so its a problem. Thst is stlucia politics. I was a supporter of the slp now i am neutral. I am so disappointed in this party. I am someone that does not see life as an eye for an eye. But your party takes pleasure in doing that. You complain about uwp favoritism, jobs for thr boys etc but you get into power and practising the samethings you complained about worse. I suppose come next year you all will be on tje ground with the same lying sad songs but rest assured that we st. Lucians are not stupid or ignorant like you all think. God has a suprize in store. Also in choiseul in terms of both slp and uwp candidates we have had this present candidate you have is the worse that choiseul have ever gotten. The district rep is hon bradly like she is quick to tell some people so please let hon bradly be the one witb the cash a d authority to do what sbe is pushing herself forward tl do for her friends. God is not dead so nothing that happens in secret will be seen by him. Also choiseulians Bradly is one of ours that we interact with on the streets, at activities. At funerals so please lets be there for him. Peace and love and a safe and careful festive season as we get into it. Remember precaution is better than cure. Ps post my post as many articles by me have not being posted. Thank you
