Saint Lucia’s sprint queen, Julien Alfred, has added yet another jewel to her crown, with the announcement on Friday that she is the Athletics Weekly (AW) International Female Athlete of the Year for 2024.
The 23-year-old from Ciceron won by fan votes from an elite field including Belgium’s Nafi Thiam, The Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan, Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich, Faith Kipyego, and Beatrice Chebet, the USA’s Gabby Thomas and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
Alfred’s citation in the respected British track and field publication notes that “she began 2024 by winning world indoor 60m gold in Glasgow and then went on to win Olympic 100m gold and 200m silver.”
Alfred also won the Wanda Diamond League 100m title. Since her season ended in September, she has been recognised by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) for her exploits in Paris.
The University of Texas graduate is also a finalist for the World Athletics Track Athlete of the Year, along with McLaughlin-Levrone. The Track Athlete of the Year will be announced at the World Athletics Gala next month.

Congratulations Julien Alfred! Keep thanking God for your blessings.
PlRePray, relax, rest, enjoy life, God is good.
You deserve every thing you get Juju. Don’t be distracted, remain focused,
I don’t care how much you celebrate your wonderful Olympic athlete. St. Lucia is a failed state characterized by inept and potentially corrupt officials who enrich themselves at the expense of the common people, many of whom live in poverty and have no way of bettering themselves. You have a huge crime problem and no matter how beautiful your resorts are, no way will I visit again or recommend it to other travelers. You have a sad state of affairs.
Juju to the world!
Everything you declared over your life in the jiurnal came to past. Just continue to trust in God and put Him at the center of all you do.
From your top fan from primary school days.
From strength to strength. So happy for Ms Alfred, for St Lucia and for the whole Caribbean!
Bravo to our Lucian star🇱🇨😍
