FLOW recently teamed up with Feed the Poor Ministry for its annual Christmas event, bringing holiday cheer to less fortunate individuals in the city and capping off a “good year” for the registered charity.
According to Gaspar Henry, CEO of Feed the Poor Ministry, the event at Constitution Park marked the end of a busy and successful year for the non-profit organisation.
“I must say it has been a good year for Feed the Poor Ministry, especially in terms of public support and government support. The grants from the Government have made a difference and a few more persons have embraced us and they support us on a monthly basis,” Henry told St. Lucia Times.
“And so, this year, we were able to expand in some areas such as clothing, we received lots of clothing and we were able to minister to the needs of people.
“For our schools’ ministry, we continue to go to the schools and try to shape the minds of the youth, and coming down to the Christmas activity with FLOW this was our winding down event and it has been a very wonderful one,” Henry added.
He noted his organisation has partnered with FLOW for the past 16 years and the Aquatic Swimming Centre team assisted this year.
“Together we were able to serve 200 meals and distribute gift packages to the elderly. They were well taken care of and it was a true Christmas treat–the cake, the cupcakes, juice, the water, apples, to go with a special lunch including ham and turkey,” he explained.
“So I really want to thank FLOW and I must say, they are the bloodstream of Feed the Poor Ministry on a monthly basis financially and for that, I am very thankful,” he added.
Looking ahead to 2025, Henry shared his goals for expanding the organisation’s reach.
“When I started Feed the Poor Ministry almost 20 years ago, I saw it as not something that would be centralised or based, solely in the city. So right now I am looking ahead to going out to more communities, I am looking at Roseau and Canaries in the first instance. I would really love to at least have a couple of sessions in more communities, besides Castries central; so that is my aim, that is my goal and by the grace of God it is going to happen,” Henry stated.
