Thrilling Comebacks, Big Scores Highlight SLFA U-12 Weekend Action

The second leg of the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) District League Primary Schools Under-12 competition kicked off over the weekend, with Vieux Fort South, Mabouya Valley, Central Castries, Desruisseaux, and Canaries all securing big wins.

The competition, which began in August last year, will continue with a round-robin format, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. All matches over the weekend were played at the SLFA Inc. Technical Centre in Dennery, utilising both the turf and grass fields.

The first match of this round of fixtures on Saturday saw Vieux Fort South defeat the home team, Dennery, with a solitary goal from Rove O’Reilly. The winning goal came in the 60th minute after a goalless first half.

During a simultaneous 10 a.m. kickoff on Saturday, Mabouya Valley put eight goals past Roseau Valley. The highlight of the match was Kerran Louisy’s four goals. Number 7, Vjay Edwin, scored a brace, while Jaca Avril and Keevan Louisy each netted a goal.

At 12 p.m., Anse La Raye faced Central Castries in a thrilling five-goal match. Mitchell Deterville opened the scoring for Anse La Raye in the 20th minute and then secured a brace in the 24th minute. Central Castries, showing great resilience, battled back through a goal from Insiah Pinel in the 33rd minute. A Javis Emmanuel brace—one goal just before halftime and another in the 57th minute—completed Central Castries’ comeback, securing a 3-2 victory.

The action continued on Sunday with two 10 a.m. kickoffs. In the encounter on the turf, Desruisseaux triumphed over Gros Islet with a 3-0 victory. All the goals came in the first half, with Whiz Alcindor scoring in the 6th and 21st minutes, and Rhyal Camsel finding the net in the 18th minute.

In the other fixture on Sunday, Canaries overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat Mon Repos 3-1. Cyril Charlery gave Mon Repos the lead in the 28th minute. However, goals from Kendall Allain, who bagged a brace with strikes in the 37th and 58th minutes, and Caison Clement, who scored in the 44th minute, ensured a comeback victory for Canaries.
