Legacy, the Independence Edition Returns

The annual Legacy event is back for its seventh instalment and organisers have promised that this year’s event will be “bigger and better”.

Legacy, one of the events on Saint Lucia’s official Independence calendar, will be held on February 8 at the Pavillion in Rodney Bay at 8 p.m.

“Over the years, the event has stuck to a formula of bringing together legendary calypso and soca artists from across the region and Saint Lucia for a night of pure nostalgia. This year will be no different,” organisers Pioneer Productions said.

This year, Legacy will feature two Caribbean music icons—Soca Queen Alison Hinds and groove master Rupee. Both artists are popular among Saint Lucian soca lovers.

Hinds is well known for several hits with the band Square One as well as popular solo songs like Faluma, Roll It Gal, Iron Bazoodee and Aye, aye, aye (with Dereck Yarde). Last year, she received the Elite Icon Award at the Caribbean Music Awards in New York.

Hinds, who is known for her very engaging performances, will be joined by her Barbadian counterpart Rupee.

Rupee has delivered some memorable soca hits over the years with infectious hooks and melodies. Among them, Enjoy Yourself (in de mas), What Happens In The Party, and Blame it On De Music.

He was once signed to Atlantic Records, with the song Tempted to Touch receiving international acclaim.

Also taking to the Legacy stage will be Saint Lucia’s two-time Groovy Soca Monarch Sly, whose song Damn Proud Lucian has been chosen as the official independence theme this year. His repertoire also includes Mix Up, Problems, Ban Fe, and Breakaway.

Papa Vader and De Ashanti, two Saint Lucian calypso legends and former monarchs, are also part of the cast as well as Robbie and Alpha.
