Saint Lucia faced a tough start to their CONCACAF Under-17 Men’s World Cup Qualifiers in Guatemala City, Guatemala, losing 3-1 to Jamaica in their opening fixture on Monday.
The match, played at the Estadio Cementos Progreso, is one of three fixtures to be held at the venue as the Young Piton Boyz aim for a spot in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
The first goal came in the 12th minute when Seymour Reid capitalised on a loose ball inside the penalty area.
Jamaica extended their lead early in the second half, with Dario White striking from the right side of the penalty area in the 50th minute.
Jahmarie Nolan all but sealed the victory for the Reggae Boyz in the 55th minute, firing a powerful right-footed shot just outside the box.
Saint Lucia’s Shevon Byron pulled one back in the 73rd minute with a composed left-footed lob into the goal, but it was a mere consolation as the team suffered defeat.
Team Saint Lucia will look to bounce back when they face El Salvador on Wednesday, hoping for a better result in their quest to advance to the World Cup.
