Lucians on Target in French Football

Three of the four Saint Lucian internationals at L’Avenir FC got on the scoreboard in a pivotal match on the weekend. L’Avenir du Saint-Esprit moved up to fourth after the win, moving Émulation FC down to fifth. The game was played at the Victor Schoelcher Stadium in Martinique.

Shamalyn Albert opened the scoring off a beautiful backheel from fellow Saint Lucian, Freegeanne Jn Baptiste. Dominica captain Romelcia Phillip netted to make it 2-0 off an assist from Saint Lucia captain Ellaisa Marquis. Marquis also set up Jn Baptiste, before the skipper netted herself to cap off the 15th matchday of the women’s competition.

It was a fifth win in the last six games for L’Avenir, for whom Saint Lucian defender Racquel John also plays. They now have 36 points from 13 games, having scored 49 goals whilst conceding 19. Émulation FC are on 34 points, with 48 goals scored and 20 let in.

L’Avenir have two of their toughest games remaining and must draw or win to move up the table. They will face Club Franciscain on March 15 at Saint-Esprit, then RC Rivière-Pilote on the weekend of March 22 at Rivière-Pilote to try to book a place in the playoffs.

Led by their Saint Lucia internationals, Les Spiritaines crushed US Diamantinoise 13-0 en route to moving into fourth place, synonymous with qualification for the playoffs.
