Lorde Provides in CCSS Cricket Win

Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS) claimed their first win while Corinth Secondary School (CSS) sunk to a second straight loss when the two met up on Monday in the Schools’ Under-19 50-Over Boys’ Cricket Tournament.

The nailbiting encounter was played at the Gros Islet Playing Field, with the match reduced to 35 overs a side due to rain.

National and Windward Islands Under-15 player Daniel Lorde led CCSS to a total of 199. The 14-year-old from Assou Canal in Gros Islet hit the competition’s first century, 107 inclusive of 14 fours and 3 sixes.

Other notable scores for CCSS, as they were dismissed in 30.2 overs, came from Kareem Francis with 22 and Tristan Isidore with 22 not out. Armani Lesmond took 3-33 for Corinth, Neil Poyotte 2-28, and Darren Felix 2-34.

In reply, Corinth Secondary made a good fist of it, but ultimately fell 11 runs short. Zidane Wilson top-scored with 44 as Corinth made 188 all out in 25.2 overs. Armani Lesmond added 21, Neil Poyotte 20, and Tristan  Wilson 16.

After shining with the bat, Lorde took 2-36 with his right-arm off-spin. But the main bowler for the boys from Vide Bouteille was Kymani Calvin, who captured 4-44, whilst Kaylum Thomas and Kareem Francis took one each.

Winless from their first two games, Corinth must still face the unbeaten Patricia D James Secondary School (PDJSS) and a tough St Mary’s College squad to stay alive in Group C. CCSS lost their opening game to PDJSS. Ciceron Secondary School, with one win already to their credit, is the fifth team in the group.
