Elite Blazers Set for Historic 3×3 Showdown in Guyana

A formidable four-member team, comprising players from Gros Islet and Soufrière, is set to take on some of the best basketballers from around the region and beyond.

Elite Blazers will compete in the prestigious One Guyana 3×3 Quest, April 5-6 in Georgetown, Guyana. It is the first time Saint Lucia will be represented in this competition.

Sponsored by Top Ranking Electricals Inc., Elite Blazers include Troy Louison and Andre Louison from the Bonneterre Sports Club, alongside Sidney Didier and Desir Joseph, aka Jayzee Saltibus, from the Soufrière Kings.

The Kings have ruled local basketball in recent times. They won the KFC National League in 2024 and seized the Independence 3×3 title last month. That latter competition was hosted by Bonneterre, for whom the Louison boys have been a mainstay in all formats. Troy Louison is currently Saint Lucia’s top-ranked 3×3 player.

On the hardwood floor of the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, 20 teams from 17 territories will compete for a first-place prize of US$8 000. The winner will also advance to the 3×3 World Tour in Edmonton, Canada. Saint Lucia aside, teams will come from the British Virgin Islands, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Grenada, Guatemala, hosts Guyana, Mexico, Puerto Rico, St Kitts & Nevis, Sint Maarten, Switzerland, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and the USA.

On CASH Court 1, Elite Blazers will take on Quarters United from Trinidad and Tobago, Hamilton from Bermuda, Guyana’s Renegades, and the Swiss team, Lausanne.

Organised by former Guyana national player Rawle Toney, under the auspices of the Guyana Basketball Federation, this will be the first One Guyana tournament, after four iterations of its predecessor (the Rawle Toney Classic) since 2021.

The One Guyana 3×3 Quest marks the first time an English-speaking Caribbean nation is hosting a 3×3 Quest event with World Tour implications.
