Pan Am Swimming Produces One Medal for Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia concluded its debut at the Pan Am Aquatics Championships over the weekend with one medal, a bronze won by Jayden Xu in the 50m backstroke.

The three-member team wrapped up competition on Saturday night at the Complejo Acuático César Zapata in Medellín, Colombia.

Xu, along with teammate Noah Dorville, also advanced to the boys’ 13-15 100m backstroke final. In the preliminaries, Xu won Heat 1 in 1:06.62, while Dorville placed fourth in Heat 2 with a time of 1:09.13. In the final, Xu narrowly missed a second medal, finishing fourth in 1:05.50, while Dorville secured seventh with a personal-best 1:08.28.

In the 50m freestyle heats, Xu placed seventh in his preliminary race with a time of 27.78. Dorville, meanwhile, shaved three-quarters of a second off his previous best, clocking 26.54 for fifth in Heat 4, though it wasn’t enough to advance to the final.

Saint Lucia’s sole female swimmer, Naekeisha Louis, reached the finals in both the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly. Competing in the 19-22 age group, she finished sixth (27.39) and seventh (29.43), respectively.

Upon their return, Xu and Dorville will compete in the Karen Beaubrun Memorial, while Louis heads back to university in the US. The next major international event for Saint Lucian swimmers will be the Pan American Junior Games in Asuncion in August.
