The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports kicked off the 2025-2026 school sports season with the commencement of Under-19 basketball on September 30, at the Beausejour Gymnasium. There were wins for defending champions Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) and Soufrière Comprehensive in Group A, and for St Mary’s College (SMC) and Leon Hess Comprehensive in Group B.
The champs crushed Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS) 78-39. Joel Desrivieres poured in 24 points for SALCC, to go with six rebounds and four steals. Malik Dennis contributed 18 points, eight rebounds, and seven steals. For CCSS, Meshach Duboulary stood out with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and three steals. David Chandler chipped in with nine points and a massive 16 rebounds.
Losing finalists last year, Soufrière overcame a game against Entrepot Secondary 55-30. Cordin Jones tallied 23, Alex Longville eight with seven rebounds and three steals, and Chaz Alexander ten for the lads from Sulphur City. Imani Gonzague had 12 points and five steals for ESS, who outrebounded their opponents 22-15.
SMC comprehensively trounced Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School (VFCSS), 67-15. Jabarie Archibald dominated to the tune of 21 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Nezan Lewis (20) and Requeimi Pierre (12) provided strong support. Cyrilon Cyris was the best player for VFCSS, with eight points, eight rebounds, and six steals.
LHCSS won 61-16 over Patricia D James Secondary, last year’s third-place finishers. Sage Lewis paced the victors with 21 points and seven rebounds. Christopher Thakur added 17 points, and Ahlil Cyril 13. Rushawn Williams led PDJS with nine points, four rebounds, two steals, and three blocks.
Also in Group A are Corinth Secondary and Choiseul Secondary, whilst Group B includes Micoud Secondary and Beanefield Comprehensive. The tournament, which is set to conclude on November 4, will include a total of 38 matches.
