Edwin, Oliver take school 5K titles

Club runners dominated the Secondary Schools Road Race on Thursday, December 11, at Beausejour, Gros Islet. Beneath persistent rain, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College’s Omarion Edwin and McKayla Oliver were the boys’ and girls’ champions, dominating the five-kilometre course.

Starting at the northeast corner of the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, runners circumnavigated the facility before striking north along the Beausejour Promenade, then past the Saint Lucia Sports Academy (SLSA) to Bella Rosa Road, and back to the DSCG.

Edwin, a member of Survivors Track Club and a two-time CARIFTA competitor, won the Under-18 division in 18:28, ahead of Tafari Martin from Micoud Secondary (18:44) and Choiseul’s Demille Theodore (18:57). Soufriere’s Chaz Alexander gave a good account of himself in the Under-16 category, crossing the line in 18:52 to win the U16 category from Tai Joseph of Saint Lucia Sports Academy and Jamal Cadette of Soufriere.
