Jacobie honoured for athletics feats

Senior high jumper Jenneil Jacobie left the East Texas A&M University athletic department’s annual awards show with four trophies, while other Saint Lucian athletes recorded top-three marks and personal-best performances in recent US collegiate track and field action.

ETAMU celebrated top Lion student-athletes in the classroom, on the field, and in life with the Luckys. Jacobie, a pre-med student from Grande Riviere, Gros Islet, was recognised as the Most Outstanding Women’s Field Athlete, earned the Female Breakthrough Performance of the Year, and received the Lion Heart Award and the Lib Huggins Award for Female Athlete of the Year.

Earlier this year, Jacobie set a new school record of 1.87m in her event and was the first Lion to compete at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships, all after recovering from surgery that caused her to miss the entire 2025 season.

Meanwhile, competing for the University of Memphis, Natalie Albert was third in women’s hammer throw at the LSU Alumni Gold, with a throw of 55.82m (183′ 2″) at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium, her second-best throw of all time, after recording a personal-best 56.57m earlier this season.

At the Penn Relays, national record holder in the men’s 110m hurdles, Khailan Vitalis, also had a podium finish. The Clemson University junior transfer ran 13.85 seconds in the preliminaries, and 14.08 into a -1.3m-per-second headwind in the final, placing third in the championship division.

At the Drake Relays, the Western Illinois University Leathernecks competed against top collegiate competition and turned in several notable performances. Mya Hippolyte recorded a season-best time of 11.93 in the women’s 100m, finishing 17th overall.
