SMC win U16 basketball championship again

The title match of the Secondary Schools Under-16 Boys’ Basketball Tournament proved to be another straightforward outing for St Mary’s College (SMC), as the lads from Vigie defeated Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS) 46-24 on Thursday, May 28, at Beausejour Gymnasium.

SMC, the defending champions, got another great game from finals MVP Daelan Magloire. He led the team with 26 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks, four steals, and three assists. Alexander Constantine added 12 points, four steals, and four rebounds. Jayden Monrose and Jayden Isaac together grabbed 11 rebounds.

David Chandler was superb for CCSS, scoring 17 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and making seven blocks and seven steals. In the preliminary rounds, Chandler had 71 points, 22 steals, and seven blocks in three games. But in the final, he was the only one making a big impact.

SMC out-rebounded CCSS 38-31 and had only 16 turnovers compared to their opponents’ 32.

Entrepot Secondary School took third place by narrowly beating their Castries East neighbours Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School, 29-26. Kobe Francis led with nine points, Azaria Leon scored eight, and Jaiden Gregg added six.

Gregg also grabbed 15 rebounds, and Yannis Mathurin added 13. Francis led the team with five steals, while Gregg and Leon each had four.

Cameron Guard led LHCSS with six points, though he made only three of 19 shots. Thomas Joseph had 10 rebounds, and Guard added eight steals, but the team ended their season with another disappointing finish.
