The search for two people who were missing after Saturday night’s fatal boat collision off Saint Lucia’s west coast has ended, with police confirming that both bodies were recovered on Wednesday morning.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force reported that the bodies of Marley William and Tyrone Elivique, both from Baron’s Drive, Soufrière, were found off Anse La Raye Bay between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Their recovery brings the death toll from the collision to four.
Police had previously confirmed the deaths of 21-year-old Mhakeida Nestor of La Fargue, Choiseul, and 25-year-old Debbie Dolor of Market Road, Soufrière.
The collision happened at about 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, near Anse Cochon. It involved the motor vessels Ocean Angel and Mango Tours.
Preliminary investigations show that Mango Tours was travelling south and Ocean Angel was heading north when the vessels collided. Police said the wreckage of both boats has now been recovered.
Fourteen people were injured in the incident. Police said everyone received treatment at Soufrière Hospital, and those with more serious injuries were transferred to the island’s two main hospitals for further care.
Investigations into the circumstances of the collision are still ongoing.
