Team Saint Lucia will not repeat as champions of the Windward Islands Super 50 Men’s Competition, having failed to reach this year’s final. The team will compete for third place against Grenada on Monday, while Dominica and St Vincent and the Grenadines battle for the championship.
Despite the disappointing overall outcome, there were several standout performances from Saint Lucian cricketers worth noting.
In the bowling department, all-rounder Jaden Elibox claimed five wickets for just 21 runs in a seven-wicket victory against Dominica on July 31. In a defeat against Grenada on August 2, fast bowler Joshua Cepal bagged figures of 4-37 during his 7-over spell. Cepal is among the brightest talents in the Saint Lucia setup, having been selected for a West Indies fast-bowling camp earlier this year.
In terms of batting exploits, young sensation Theo Edward smashed 66 runs off 46 deliveries – including six fours and four sixes – against Dominica. Before this, veteran Stephen Naitram and Elibox scored 68 runs (68 deliveries) and 75 runs (40 deliveries), respectively, in a three-wicket loss against St Vincent and the Grenadines.
