Windies collapse! Pakistan cruise to 8-wicket win to share honours

The West Indies lost to Pakistan by eight wickets in the second match of their two-Test series on Wednesday. With this win at Queen’s Park Oval, both teams shared the honours as the series ended 1-1.

The West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first, reaching 344 runs. Brandon King scored a lively 46 from 50 balls, Justin Greaves continued his strong form with 73, and captain Roston Chase added 70. Other batters got starts but couldn’t build big scores.

Spin had not taken a single wicket in the first Test; however, Sajid Khan’s 4/85 showed what was to come for both teams.

The star of the Pakistani first-innings response was Abdullah Shafique, whose 160 was the highest score by any batter in the series. Shafique was supported by his captain, Babar Azam, who played well for his 88 before being run out by King.

King injured himself executing the dismissal and had to be wheeled off on a stretcher. He played no further part in the game.

West Indies vice-captain Jomel Warrican took 6 wickets for 112 runs.

The hosts struggled in their second innings as spinners Khan and Ali Usman each took 4 wickets. They were all out for just 117, leaving Pakistan only 75 runs to win. The visitors chased the target in quick time for a rare overseas victory.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Justin Greaves both received Player of the Series honours, which is unusual in cricket.

The West Indies are still unbeaten in home series this year, but this was their first loss in the current World Test Championship cycle.
