Vieux Fort South retook sole possession of the top spot in the Saint Lucia Semi-Pro Football League Tier 1 table on Sunday evening, following a 2-1 victory over Central Castries at the Francis Baba Lastic Grounds in Gros Islet. Dennery, Soufrière and Gros Islet also won while La Clery dropped points against Anse La Raye.
2025 Tier 2 winners Vieux Fort South started the weekend as joint leaders with defending champions La Clery. The Jamil Joseph-led lads in green and white stayed unbeaten, handing the men from the capital their fourth loss in five matches.
VFS went ahead in the fifth minute after an own goal by Kaylan Harry. Demario Pelage equalised for Central in the 34th minute, but Gregson President scored just four minutes later to put VFS back in front. That goal secured all three points and sent the southern team clear at the top of the table.
Dennery are second, having overwhelmed Vieux Fort North 7-2 on Friday. Garvin Reggie got the first four-goal haul of the season, taking him joint top of the scoring tables. He struck in the fourth, 23rd, 45th and 62nd. Kurt Frederick (9′), Shannelle William (36′) and Jamie Prospere also scored, while Kimroy Manero (49′) and Kim Augustin (75′) netted for Vieux Fort North.
On Saturday, La Clery were held to a 1-1 draw by Anse La Raye. Vershaun Jerome gave Anse La Raye the lead in the 69th minute, but La Clery got a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser from Johnathan Aliene (90+2).
Dennery will play La Clery on Wednesday night in what should be a mouthwatering top-of-the-table clash at Gros Islet.
In Saturday’s early Tier 1 encounter, Soufriere overturned a first-half deficit to defeat Canaries 2-1, answering Mc Lathur Louis’s 14th-minute goal with second-half strikes from Jardel Philip in the 70th minute and Darrel Francis in the 85th.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday night as hosts Gros Islet edged Mabouya Valley 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller. Dervaj Edward scored twice (49′, 70′) and Samaiel Louisen added another in the 27th minute for Gros Islet. For Mabouya Valley, Brandon Sandiford (5′), Alton Joseph (52′), and Canius Sandiford (61′) found the net.
