Trio convicted of triple murder to be sentenced in January

Three men convicted in connection with the 2022 triple homicide of Samantha Eugene, Constant Thomas and Elisha Thomas are due to be sentenced in January 2027.

Marvin Gabriel, Junior Herman and Shem Bennett were unanimously convicted by a jury last Friday, October 23, following a trial that began on July 6, Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police Luke Joseph has confirmed.

According to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court website, the three men are scheduled to be sentenced on January 21, 2027.

Speaking at a police press conference on Thursday, Joseph described the jury’s verdict as “an important step towards justice”.

Samantha, Constant and Elisha were attacked at La Toc Road, Castries, between the late hours of February 22, 2022, and the early hours of February 23.

The bodies of the first two were found bound and gagged along a narrow footpath. Both were fatally shot. Elisha, who had multiple stab wounds, was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries on March 12.

Gabriel and Herman were charged in October 2022 in connection with the deaths. Bennett was charged 10 months later.

Joseph commended the investigators and others who contributed to the outcome of the case.

He also acknowledged the impact of the killings on the victims’ families, expressing hope that the convictions would bring them some measure of comfort.

“We recognise that no outcome can ever truly replace their loved ones or erase the grief that they have experienced. However, the successful conclusion of these cases represents an important step towards justice and hopefully provides some measure of comfort and closure to the bereaved families,” Joseph said.

The convicted men remain at the Bordelais Correctional Facility pending sentencing.
