With cruise activity expected to increase in the coming weeks, workers were busy preparing key tourism areas around Port Castries on Sunday, despite only a single vessel being in port.
Jeremie Street, which runs alongside the harbour and is typically a hub of activity during the cruise season, was abuzz with preparations rather than visitors. Although the Mein Schiff 2, operated by TUI Cruises, was docked at Pointe Seraphine, there was little sign of passenger activity in the city.
Instead, the traffic reflected efforts to get the area ready for the months ahead. At La Place Carenage, one of the island’s main duty-free shopping areas and a popular pick-up point for visitors, workers were cleaning and power-washing the facility. Elsewhere, crews were putting the finishing touches on the new vendors’ arcade being constructed by GPH/Saint Lucia Cruise Port.
A short distance away, WASCO workers continued sewer connection works linking the new arcade on Jeremie Street to Laborie Street, part of a project about which the utility company had previously advised the public.
Although Saint Lucia’s cruise season officially began in mid-October, arrivals have been relatively light so far. Activity is expected to pick up this month, beginning with calls by Arvia and Vista on Thursday, November 5.
Thirty-seven cruise calls are expected in November, with a further 72 listed in December.
Saint Lucia’s 2026/2027 cruise season officially got under way on October 12 with the inaugural visit of the Seabourn Venture to Rodney Bay. Arrivals are expected to peak between January and March 2027 before tapering off in April.
