The Government has announced that the Newborn Grants Programme officially took effect on August 1, 2026, keeping a promise made by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre in the 2026/2027 Budget. Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Melissa Paul made the announcement during Monday’s pre-Cabinet briefing.
Under the programme, mothers of eligible newborns will get a one-time grant of EC$1,000. The grant is available only for children born on or after August 1, 2026, whose births are registered within six months.
A government press release said the Newborn Grant is intended “to help mothers meet some of the immediate expenses associated with caring for a baby”.
