National tapeball team returns with two trophies in SVG bilateral sweep

The Saint Lucia National Tapeball Cricket Team emerged as double champions following a tour of St Vincent and the Grenadines. The team participated in two bilateral series: one against the St Vincent National Team and another against an SVG Adventist Premier League (APL) team.

In the APL bilateral series on Sunday, October 24, the team registered a 24-run victory at the Richman Hill Playing Field, led by Dane Edward’s heroics with the bat as he scored 40 runs. The team cemented its championship run with a 6-wicket win against the same opposition on Tuesday, securing the APL series 2-0. The standout batsman in this fixture was Stanley Cherry, who walked away with Man of the Match honours, while Dane Edward was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

In the second bilateral series, Saint Lucia claimed a mammoth 71-run victory against St Vincent at the London Playing Field, largely due to Jason Simon scoring 92 runs off just 27 deliveries. This fixture was played on Sunday, October 25. Dane Edward added 64 runs, continuing his fine form and helping put his team in a strong position to win the series.

The team added a second trophy to its cabinet with a six-wicket victory against the same opposition. Stanley Cherry was a standout with both ball and bat for Saint Lucia, claiming three wickets and scoring 23 runs off just 8 deliveries—a performance worthy of Man of the Match honours. Orey Changoo’s 62 off 17 deliveries and Dane Edward’s 38 off 18 deliveries were other noteworthy performances for Team 758. Edward once again received MVP honours for this series, bagging his second such prize of the tour.

There was an additional fixture set to be played for this national bilateral series, but it was called off due to inclement weather.

Additionally, a Veterans team accompanied the National Tapeball team to participate in the Vincy Independence Hardball competition. They registered one win and two defeats during their stint in SVG.
