Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has declared that news reports indicating that Doctor Ubaldus Raymond has resigned are not correct.
Chastanet made the disclosure to reporters Tuesday outside parliament, days after various media organisations, including St Lucia Times, quoted multiple sources as confirming the resignation.
Initially, he had told reporters that he had no comment when asked whether he had been offered and accepted Raymond’s resignation.
“That’s not true,” the PM said when asked later in the interview whether the news reports were correct.
In response to observations that Raymond is part of the leadership team in Saint Lucia and questioned as to whether he was worried about the scandals Raymond has been involved in, Chastanet said he had to get to what actually transpired.
“So there is an investigation and that’s why I would rather not to be able to comment at this point. Certainly when I have all the facts I would be happy to do that,” he explained.
The reports about Raymond’s resignation as Minister of the Public Service and a government Senator followed the appearance on social media of a salacious conversation between a man, believed to be Raymond, and a woman with a distinctly Trinidadian accent.
