Saint Lucia’s Health Ministry has issued an advisory regarding Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) as the island prepares to host the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup in June and Carnival 2024.

“The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs would like to remind the general public of precautionary measures when engaging in sexual activities,” Senior Medical Officer Dr. Gail Gajadhar said.

Gajadhar disclosed that Sexually Transmitted Diseases such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis B and C exist in Saint Lucia.

However, she noted that people are likely to engage in activities outside their comfort zone, especially after consuming alcohol, as they attend parties, fetes, and shows.

Gajadhar issued the following statement, which appears below:

  1. What is being implied? Do we have increased promiscuity in general or do we have increased exchange of monies for sex during such events? Are drugs and alcohol more pervasive at these times which lead to uncharacteristic behaviour?

What does it point to low morality or subpar socioeconomic situations which drive our males and females into such risky activities.

Warning is not sufficient, but real examination of these situations and implementation of serious counter measures and/or support measures to reduce this implied undesirable behaviour.

  2. @IMPLICATIONS … “What is being implied? Do we have increased promiscuity in general or do we have increased exchange of monies for sex during such events?” – OH YES!!
“Are drugs and alcohol more pervasive at these times which lead to uncharacteristic behaviour?” – OH YES!!

You can come out in the light now …
