The Saint Lucia Kings lost again at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on Wednesday, this time to the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The match was played in front of an enthusiastic crowd, with both home and away fans cheering. Khary Pierre returned to Saint Lucia to play against his former team for the first time.
Despite losing the toss, the Kings reached a solid 51 for 2 during the rain-interrupted fielding restrictions. Run scoring slowed in the middle overs, and the team were 76/4 at the halfway stage as economical bowling by the Warriors made headway difficult. The Kings had very few high-scoring overs and eventually got to 151.
The Amazon Warriors were excellent in the field, taking all seven wickets through catches. Dwaine Pretorius led the bowling with three wickets for 29 runs.
The visitors started strong with a 79-run opening partnership before rain interrupted play again. With a solid foundation, Quentin Sampson (13 not out) and Shimron Hetmyer (25 not out) guided the team to an easy win by seven wickets, despite some tight bowling from the Kings. Unlike the Warriors, the Kings missed several catches and could not defend their below-par total.
The Amazon Warriors now lead the points table, while the Boys in Blue have suffered their third home loss this season. The Kings have one more home game against the Jamaica Kingsmen at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on Friday, where they hope to finish their home leg on a high.
