Caribbean Premier League Chief Executive Officer Pete Russell has stepped down from his role following the conclusion of the 2026 season.
Russell has been part of the CPL team since the league’s inception, helping to shape its development and growth over the years.
He will remain in his position until a new CEO is appointed. He will also continue to support the board and leadership team.
Speaking about his decision to step down, Russell said: “I am incredibly proud of CPL’s growth and international standing. I believe its greatest achievement is in bringing fans back to cricket across the Caribbean and providing a platform for generations of young West Indian players to showcase their talent, express themselves on a global stage and pursue their cricketing dreams.
“CPL reignited a passion for the game, filled stadiums with energy and excitement, and created unforgettable memories for many people throughout the region and around the world. I want to thank the fans, the players, franchise owners, sponsors, broadcast partners, regional governments and the dedicated CPL team. It has been the privilege of a lifetime to be part of this journey.”
For the first eight years of the CPL, Russell served as the league’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), overseeing the operational side of the tournament before being promoted to CEO in June 2021. Under his leadership, the CPL has grown significantly across several markets by securing broadcast deals and commercial partnerships, and by building productive relationships with governments throughout the Caribbean.
Recently, Russell oversaw the CPL Group’s expansion beyond cricket. The league grew to seven franchise teams, launched Live and Louder Productions, introduced a dedicated streaming application, and developed an expanded events business.
