Student injured in Cas En Bas accident still awaiting surgery

More than two weeks after she was injured in a vehicle-pedestrian collision in Cas En Bas, Tatiyana Innocent is still awaiting surgery, and her mother, Vanessa Martin, says the wait is becoming increasingly difficult.

Innocent was one of two Entrepot Secondary School students taken to hospital with lower-body injuries following the September 18 collision.

Martin said her daughter was initially scheduled to undergo surgery on September 28, but the procedure was subsequently postponed.

“They have asked me to give blood; I’ve donated blood…. I got very good support in terms of blood donations,” Martin told St Lucia Times.

“So, they have a sufficient amount of blood, her haemoglobin is up, and as far as I see it, everything is on par for her to do her surgery.”

According to Martin, the surgery is considered elective. In medical terms, an elective surgery is a planned procedure that does not require immediate emergency intervention, although it may still be medically necessary.

Martin said she is hoping her daughter’s surgery can be carried out soon.

“I just need people to rally around me so I could get my daughter’s surgery done, or, if it cannot be done, I would like my daughter to be released so I could rally assistance so I would get my daughter out where she can get the urgency and the proper care that she needs for the surgery,” she said.
