Former West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Tarrique Edward will represent Saint Lucia and the region this weekend, after being named in a 12-man Caribbean Under-23 squad to face the Wider Commonwealth in Antigua & Barbuda. The 10-overs-a-side match takes place on Sunday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, as part of the cricket celebration for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
Organised by Cricket West Indies in collaboration with the Government of Antigua & Barbuda and the Commonwealth Secretariat, the exhibition forms part of the One Commonwealth, One Team programme. The Caribbean selection brings together emerging players from 12 regional Commonwealth territories, with squad members aged 18-22. Dominica batsman Stephan Pascal captains the team, with West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards serving as honorary team manager on the ground that bears his name.
Edward, 22, has progressed steadily through the local and regional development pathway. He earned selection to the West Indies team for the 2024 ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa, and has been MVP of regional age-group competitions. A dependable right-arm off-spinner and capable middle-order batsman, his international youth campaign was highlighted by a match-winning spell of 3-24 against Scotland.Â
Over the past three years, Edward has continued his development within the Saint Lucia Cricket High Performance system and regional training squads, working to make the transition into senior cricket.
Sunday’s fixture will follow a special match featuring Commonwealth Heads of Government, directing attention towards the next generation of Caribbean cricketers on an international stage. On the heels of Shadrack Descarte and Keon Gaston making the West Indies A team, and Theo Edward’s selection to the Windward Islands Volcanoes, Edward’s inclusion caps a positive period for Saint Lucian cricket.
